In less than a decade, Bandon Dunes Golf Resort's three courses are already gaining legend status, thanks to the resort's no-frills homage to traditional links golf, Brandon Tucker writes.

No matter if you're passing through Washington D.C., coming for a visit or here to lobby for the pharmaceutical industry, if you have enough of a layover, there are some nice golf options. Not far from either Dulles or Ronald Reagan National, you’ll find Congressional Country Club, the TPC at Avenel, Bull Run Country Club, Raspberry Falls Golf and Hunt Club, Westfields, East Potomac Park, Washington Golf and Country Club, and Army-Navy Country Club and more.
As a key player in the Civil War, Richmond, Va. is known for many things. It's the city where Patrick Henry delivered his famous "Give me liberty or give me death" speech. Perhaps more interesting to many travelers, it also happens to be a great town for restaurants. So while Virginia's capital has plenty of golf options nearby, it also has plenty of other diversions for families, singles and everyone in between.
Delaware has a reputation of being a state you pass through while going to another northeastern destination. But while Delaware may be the second smallest state in land mass, there's little doubt it is the most overlooked one in golf terms. With courses like Three Little Bakers Country Club and White Clay Creek Country Club, the golf may be a little off the beaten path in Delaware, but it's there, waiting for you to stop.
Imagine paying $18 to play a golf course that once hosted a major championship. Ludicrous, right? Wrong. You'll pay just that at Belmont Golf Course in Richmond, Virginia. Host of the 1949 PGA Championship, won by Sam Snead, Belmont can now be played for less than a meal at your average Chilli's. And playing Belmont is an experience. It's an education in just how much the game has changed, especially at the pro level.
Attention mid-Atlantic golfers: The Victory Golf Pass is definitely a win-win proposition. The pass lets you play for drastically reduced rates at 141 tracks, 14 of them private, in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and Virginia. All are within "comfortable driving distance" of the Philadelphia metro area, according to the pass Web site. The pass costs $49.95, with discounts for multiple purchases and aportion of the proceeds go to charities like the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.
Robert Fajkowski is a 5-handicap from Fairfax, Va., writes: The Lakes Course at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Clifton, Va., has the layout, but it doesn't have the polish. Fairways are average; the rough is forgiving; the greens are receptive to good shots but agonzingly slow. If you play the course in the morning, be sure your putter has an X-Shaft. Still, the price is right and the course is playable. Just remember to give your putts a little extra.
Noted course designer Arthur Hills obviously had some demons to let out when he designed the golf course at White Clay Creek Country Club. Forced carries on nearly every hole and raised-ridge greens are just two things that have golfers walking off the course shaking their heads. But if you can handle the toughness, White Clay Creek can be an interesting play. If you can’t handle it, there’s always the horse race track next door.
